Two months ago we opened up a portion of our website to ask for your favourite Elvis songs. The response we received resulted in this album, the New Zealand edition of I Am An Elvis Fan. Around the world, countries have voted and had their own edition
published. This will only be released here, for kiwis. So what songs did we choose?
Songs that make you want curl your lip, swivel your hips and say “A huh huh” and “Thank you very much.” The compilation begins with Jailhouse Rock, and quickly whips into other fast paced tunes like All Shook Up and Return To Sender. All the big hits are here, you won’t be surprised to see Love Me Tender and Are You Lonesome Tonight, which still has the power to give goose bumps. His voice was so good, no matter what style he sang in.
(Let Me Be) Your Teddy Bear and (You’re The) Devil In Disguise (both) surprised me as being so far up the list. One of the categories we took votes on was In Concert, the live recordings we like the most are of Hawaiian Wedding Song (recorded in
Nebraska in 1977 two months before he died) and An American Trilogy from January 1973 in Hawaii. I thought we might’ve chosen a recording of the first song from a Hawaiian show!
This Thursday marks 35 years since he passed away. This album is a great testament to the memories he gave us and left behind.
