Album Review - Ringo Starr: Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo

EMI

Joining the Beatles in August 62 as a replacement drummer for Pete Best, Ringo’s contribution to them has only recently been recognised in the success of the greatest band of all. After the Beatles' break-up in 1970, Ringo had musical success with several singles and albums, and recorded with each of his fellow ex-Beatles. He has also been featured in a number of TV documentaries, hosted TV shows, narrated the first two series of the children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.

Ringo’s vocals are best described as unique & you can’t help imagining Thomas & friends gently puffing around in the background, but there is something comforting in his voice. Interestingly enough there is only one nod to his former band on this first ever best of, with Act Naturally featuring Buck Owens, who had a hit with it originally. The remaining 19 tracks are culled from Ringo’s 17 solo albums & there are some great songs on this album.

Ringo has always had the ability to bring musicians together, weather it was calming the troubled waters of his ex-bandmates, or putting together the Ringo Starr All Starr band, with gentle humour that is obvious in his songs.

Speaking of which Ringo Starr & his All Starr band will be coming to NZ in February with shows in Christchurch & Auckland and this week on Coast not only can you win this Best Of, but you may just get tickets to one of the shows
