As an optometrist, I often speak to patients who find that they leave their glasses behind or lose them when switching between glasses and sunglasses.
Thankfully, a great technology called transitional lenses has been invented to ensure that glasses-wearers no longer need to swap eyewear to keep their eyes protected in the sun.
Transitional lenses react to light. They’re clear indoors, but darken to become like sunglasses in sunlight. This means that you only need one pair of glasses for all conditions.
Transitional lenses are made from plastic rather than glass so they are lighter to wear and safer than other glass lenses.
When in the sunlight, they aren’t just darkened glasses either. Transitional lenses have 100% UVA and UVB blockage and also provide UV 400 protection.
No matter where you are, you can be assured that your eyes will be protected from the sun’s UV rays and helped against sight-threatening diseases that can be caused from sunlight such as glaucoma and even melanomas.
If you have any further questions about transitional lenses or what they can do for you, visit your local optometrist.
