According to statistics, 73% of women are in control of the household spending.  However there are dozens of ways the males in the household can save money on all sorts of everyday expenses too.  Check out some of these blokey tips and start saving today!

Keep your vehicle tyres properly inflated. Sounds insignificant but not only do properly inflated tyres save you money on petrol, they also cut down on wear and tear on your tyres, improving your car’s handling and safety.

Save on shaving.  There are several ways you can do this.  One is to swap expensive razors and refills for cheaper brands; they work just as well.  Whichever brand you use, make them last as long as possible by always drying your blades after use so that they don’t become rusty or corroded.  Your eyes may not be able to see the tiny rust spots, but they’re there!  For a super sneaky trick, try this to keep your blades sharp.  After shaving, blow any excess drops of water off your razor, then ‘shave’ your razor down the leg of your jeans a dozen times.  This will keep even the cheapest razor in top top shape.  Try it and see!

Keep fit for less.  Ditch the gym membership and create your own gym at home for a fraction of the price.  You can get kitted out with a good variety of equipment by browsing your local op shops and searching newspaper classifieds or Trade Me.  If the treadmill is your thing, hit the roads for free instead!

Borrow and barter with friends.  If you need tools or other items to do a job around the house, instead of going out and buying it, ask around friends and neighbours to see if they have what you need first. Don’t forget your local library for all the latest books, CDs, DVDs and video games too – libraries can save you a fortune and aren’t just for ladies!

Buy your favourite gadgets refurbished. If you’re planning on buying a new computer, iPod or other gadget, first check the company’s website that you want to buy from to see if they have any deals on refurbished items. You can get some great deals on ‘good as new’ products whilst getting to keep hundreds more dollars in your wallet.  I have purchased several items this way and nobody can ever tell the difference!
