Before you hit the road, give your vehicle a check-up, keeping in mind the risk factors driving in hot weather:
· Make sure your radiator is in good condition, check the fluids frequently
· Make sure your car has enough water; check this along with the oil more frequently in summer – especially before embarking on a long trip
· Check your tyres regularly and before long trips
As a driver take special care when driving in the heat this summer:
· Plan to drive when the sun is not too harsh e.g. for long trips start early morning or late afternoon
· If you stop for a break, park your car in the shade
· Get some fresh air when you are driving, it helps keep you alert and remember to keep hydrated!
Handy fuel efficiency tips for summer road trips
- When cruising on the motorway try to keep gas pedal consistent or use cruise control
- Smooth acceleration of the gas pedal is recommended, always pull away with only the speed needed and not abruptly or aggressively
- For a manual vehicle, slowing down when in gear is more efficient than depressing the clutch
Have a great summer holiday and drive safe, from Volkswagen!
