Nicola Kellend - Finishing touches

What can you do that will add some finishing touches to your home without breaking the bank?

Finishing touches can make a world of difference to the look and feel of your home when it is time to sell. I am a firm believer that these should be either items that you can take with you and enjoy in future years, or be very cost effective.

Art pieces are one of the most dramatic ways you can add some drama and colour. Hiring art pieces that suit your home can make a huge difference to a room without spending a fortune buying beautiful pieces. There are several companies that now specialise in hiring art, and Kellands have recently done this to put the finishing touches on our new Remuera Rd office. Two or three paintings, or a dramatic sculpture, will only cost a few hundred dollars for three months, and the hireage company will help you select the most suitable pieces, deliver and hang the art which makes the whole process very seamless. Obviously you will need to make sure that you have insurance cover as many of the items are worth several thousand dollars, but what a great way to complete the look and feel of your home.

New bed linen and towels for the bathrooms are another fantastic way to give a luxurious look to your bedrooms and freshen up the look of your bathrooms; and you can take them with you when you leave. You can add bed throws and cushions to give accent colours and make the bed look sumptuous.

Fresh flowers always make a difference to a room. Think about buying flowering potted plants, they last a lot longer and are more cost effective than several bunches of fresh cut flowers over several weeks of open homes. Orchids are fabulous for adding glamour, and the flowers last for months, as do flowering bromeliads. Add a couple of beautiful perfumed candles to burn during open homes, some nice lounge music playing, and your house is set.
