We’re bombarded these days with cooking shows on television in which perfect cooks would never dream of taking shortcuts…but we’re not most of these folk, and often we need a bit of a hand just to get the dinner on the table. We should never be embarrassed about taking advantage of all the products that are available to us to make our daily cooking easier and just as tasty as if we’d slaved for three days over a hot stove.
Canned soups are particularly flavoursome and can add a real zing to a dish without loads of effort – and cooking’s no fun if it’s a labour rather than a labour of love!
Supermarket shelves offer a great range of other “little helpers” in cans, packets and bottles for the busy cook. Look for cooking sauces for meats, chicken, pasta, curries…and don’t feel guilty about it. It’s all very well for domestic goddesses to do everything from scratch but most of them aren’t working and/or coping with families every day!
The other good thing about all these processed goodies is that you can have them in the pantry for emergencies.
This week, I’m confessing that I use all the help I can get sometimes and this recipe is one of our family favourites.
Recipe - Tomato and beef casserole
Canned tomato soup helps give this recipe a home-cooked family flavour everyone will love.
