Every culture has important traditions and they usually have a Spiritual base.
In the great musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ Tevye the milkman says “Traditions, traditions they tell me who I am” (then pointing to the sky he says) “and who He is.”
Make sure you have family traditions at Christmas.
Each year add a decoration on the tree that represents what your children’s favourite pastime is, like a soccer figure, lego man or little doll. Put the year n a label attached to the decoration. By the time your child is 8, there will be 8 of their personal decorations on the tree.
We started a Christmas eve tradition with sparkling grape juice in flash glasses and mum’s ‘world class’ fruit pies. We would share the year’s:
Then I would read the Christmas story from Gospel of Luke chapter 5, verses 1-20. And pray a blessing on my family.
So choose a family tradition for your family.
This year my grandchildren will get an extra little one: each one will get a bag of M&M’s, with the explanation:
I chose this one, along with others, as I didn’t want my kids to feel cosmic orphans in this great universe.
