He is considered the "nation's son", so news that Richie McCaw is interested in having children would delight many.

The 36-year-old ex All Black has appeared on television in France to promote the French release of his film Chasing Great.

Three months on from wedding Black Sticks player Gemma Flynn, McCaw was asked about his marriage during the TV appearance.

"Your wedding day is one of the most special days you can have. People said that to me, and I believe it after experiencing it," McCaw said.

The conversation then turned to children, with a sheepish McCaw quickly shifting the onus onto his wife.

"My wife plays hockey for New Zealand, so when she's decided she's had enough," the 36-year-old said of when they might be having children.

"One day, I'm not getting any younger."

We can't wait for that day to come! With such talented parents, any McCaw children are such to inherit some sporting genes!

Happiest day of my life ❤️️
