Because JAWS was first released on this day back in 1975, JT and Bernie on Coast Breakfast decided to discuss everyone's favourite movies this morning.

Kay Gregory started out with three classics that everyone loves: Love Actually, The Big Chill and the Australian cult classic The Castle.

Because of this, we thought we’d look into what the 10 most popular movies of all time according to their overall ratings, starting with Saving Private Ryan at number 10.

  1. Saving Private Ryan

People have labelled this war epic as Spielberg’s best movie of all time, which is a very big call.

  1. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope

This is one of two star wars movies on the top 10, so they must’ve been doing something good!

  1. Back to the Future

With plenty of hilarious one liners, and one of the most iconic cars of all time, this masterpiece has certainly stood the test of time.

  1. Pulp Fiction

It has been called the Bohemian Rhapsody of movies in the past, and let’s be honest it’s just as good if not better than the classic Queen tune.

  1. Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Just having one movie on the top 10 wasn’t enough for George Lucas, what an amazing flick it was though!

  1. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

We at least got one movie from little old NZ on the list, but let’s be real, Peter Jackson masterpiece is certainly worthy of its spot.

  1. The Shawshank Redemption

There are a lot of people who would argue that this movie deserves the top spot on this list, but the masses have spoken, and it’s number four.

  1. The Dark Knight

With superhero movies releasing left, right and centre there has to be at least one good one, and this is it.

  1. Forrest Gump

Nothing needs to be said here – it’s a timeless classic.

  1. The Godfather

It has everything a good movie should have in it and combined with the excellent casting, this movie is the best of all time.
