Marilyn Monroe photos discovered

Previously unpublished photos of Marilyn Monroe, aged 24 have been found in LIFE archives.

Photographer Ed Clark snapped the young yet-to-be-famous actress in Los Angeles in August 1950 and the session came about after a friend from 20th Century Fox called him about a ‘hot tomato’ he'd just signed.

The photographer recalled he'd several rolls to LIFE in New York, but they wired back, “Who the hell is Marilyn Monroe?”’

The images were found when the magazine began digitalizing every single archived negative.

Why didn't the pictures come to light when Marilyn became a huge star? The only clue, is a note with the photos, saying they were 'poorly printed'.
