Beware the Full English Breakfast - researchers have found that fat from a meal converts to fatty tissue in just three hours after you've pigged-out. That big brekkie can add the equivalent of two to three teaspoons of fat to your waistline.
While it is well known that fatty meals aid weight gain, scientists have always believed the process was slow.
The new Oxford University study, has revealed the first fat from a meal enters the blood about an hour later.
By the time three to four hours have passed, most of it has been incorporated into our tissue, mostly in the shorter term fat stores around our waists.
Scientists have thought up until now, that fat went from the gut into the blood system for use by muscles when needed and any excess fat, was removed and stored around the waist, hips and legs.
So what to do? The scientists found the fatty tissue is only stored around the waist short-term, so it could be used for energy when a person is exercising.
Eat that bgi brekkie and get moving quickly afterward, seems to be the way to go!
