Testing your fire alarm is one of the most important chores in any home and Kent Fire and Rescue Service have come up with a novel way to remind families to check theirs.

Two firefighters from Rochester proved that they can master a fireman's lift in more ways than one when they staged a hilarious parody of a famous Dirty Dancing routine for the public safety advert.

Coinciding with the movie's 30th anniversary, fighters Joanne Gilham and Nathan Pavey take on the roles of Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze in the hilarious clip.

The firefighters ditch ballroom attire performing the infamous routine to Time of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes in full uniform.

The pair are seen performing the ambitious 'lift' seeing Gilham reach up to test the fire alarm.

The clip ends with a message to the audience which reads 'Keep having the time of your life, test your smoke alarm weekly'.

The fire station shared the clip on Twitter over the weekend where it quickly proved to be a big hit, and not just in Kent.
