"Catching up on sleep" was the main priority when it came to Charles and Diana's honeymoon according to letters that were exchanged between Diana and her lady-in-waiting.

Dated August 15, 1981, the Royal Yacht Britannia crested paper revealed a rare insight into the lives of Diana and Charles as she wrote: "The honeymoon was a perfect opportunity to catch up on sleep..."

This letter is only one of a collection that is set to be auctioned in Gloucester next month.

The lots that are up for auction along with the letters include a list of wedding gifts, dried flowers, letters written during their honeymoon, thank you letters, Christmas cards, and invitations to an array of royal events.

Other letters talk of Diana's concern about the trouble that William could be causing back at home, and she was hoping that the staff weren't feeling "exhausted, overworked and underpaid."

In a letter that was sent not long after the couple returned from their tour of Australia, you can see how pleased the Princess was to see her son again:

"William recognised us instantly, which was a relief as sometimes children resent their parents leaving them! It's marvellous to be home again and hopefully we won't have to do any more travelling this year... Wishful thinking!"

There are a couple of letters that were sent right after Prince William's birth that showed the couple's concern for the staff that were responsible for the royal mail, Diana's read: "I know you are being buried under a avalanche of mail......don't despair, there won't be another baby Wales until I've had a decent rest." And Charles', which was sent one day after, and showed how he was "apologetic at all the extra work we are probably going to land on you!"

If you're in need of a bit more nostalgia, here's a short clip from the couple boarding Britannia back in '81.
