Following news that Kate Middleton is expecting her third baby, rumours are now swirling that the Duchess of Cambridge is in fact pregnant with twin girls.

Australian magazine New Idea reported that a "trusted high-ranking palace aide" has confirmed William and Kate are preparing for the arrival of not one but two little bundles of joy.

“Wills and Kate have certainly been busy making arrangements for not just one, but two royal babies,” the source said.

The 35-year-old - who is already a mother to George, 4, and Charlotte, 2 - is said to be thrilled with the news.

Speaking to Life & Style, a royal insider said Kate is keeping the while thing under wraps but palace officials are already well aware of the happy news.

"[She wants the twins to] be seen as individuals and allowed to develop their own personalities," the palace insider said.

"The twins will sleep in separate bedrooms but will share a playroom with George and Charlotte.”

But British bookmakers are doubtful as bets are currently at 20 to one that two babies are on the way for the Cambridges.
