National broadcaster Marama Martin has died today in Nelson.

She was not only one of the first Maori broadcasters in New Zealand, but also the first person ever to be seen in colour on New Zealand television.

Marama worked as a presenter for the NZBC when it was the only TV channel through the 60s and 70s.

According to a notice in the Taranaki Daily News, Marama died peacefully on the 10th of July at a care centre in Nelson.
