What are some illnesses or conditions that could affect my vision for driving?

There are different types of issues that can affect your vision; such as age-related changes, cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

As you age, you may find that your peripheral vision - what you can see to the side while you are looking straight ahead - begins to deteriorate. This is part of the natural ageing process, but can also be symptomatic of other, more serious, vision conditions.

Other age-related changes that may affect your vision and put you r driving at risk include slower reaction times or a shortened attention span.

How can I ensure that my vision does not put my safety at risk while driving?

Regular visits to your optometrist can help you take the appropriate steps to remain safe on the road.

The earlier you can get a correct diagnosis, the better - especially when it comes to cataracts, glaucoma or macular degeneration.

The right treatment - which can include prescription eye drops or, in some cases, a corrective surgical procedure will help to preserve your vision and ensure you’re safe while you are behind the wheel.
