Paris is preparing for the first skyscraper in 40 years but not everyone is happy with plans for a 600ft triangular piece of architecture.

The project was designed by the architects responsible for the Beijing 'Bird's Nest' stadium at the 2008 Olympics and will cost 460 million pounds and will contain a 120 room hotel.

The towering, triangular glass structure will feature a 120-room hotel, and 753,470 square foot of office space

Skyscrapers are a common sight in most cities. Residents of Paris strongly oppose them ever since the Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Universal Exposition.

The first and last skyscraper built in inner Paris was the Tour Montparnasse building in 1973. It was deemed to be an eyesore in the city, looming above other buildings.

Europe's biggest listed property group Unibail Rodamco is investing 500 million euro (£355 million) into the project, which is set to be completed in 2018
