Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus‏ has revealed she is battling breast cancer after being diagnosed one day following her record-setting Emmy win.

The 56-year-old Veep star took to Twitter on Thursday sharing the shocking news with a photo of a personal note.

'Just when you thought…' she tweeted, with the image attached. '1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one.

'The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family, and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.

'The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.'

No other details about her condition were immediately available. It's unclear if there is a history of breast cancer in her family.

The actress' rep told US Weekly: 'Julia is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes.'

Earlier this month, the Veep star won her sixth consecutive Emmy.

She set the record for most wins for a performance in the same role for the same series with that win.

HBO told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement that the mother-of-two learned about her diagnosis just one day after the Emmy awards.

'Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,' HBO said in the statement to THR.

'We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.'

The production schedule for Veep will be adjusted as needed, HBO said.

It was recently announced that the upcoming 7th season of the HBO show will be its last.

'We have a great final season that we're about to start filming with a lot of surprises that our fabulous writers have cooked up,' Louis-Dreyfus said during her Emmy acceptance speech.

'We did have a story line about an impeachment, but we abandoned that because we were worried that someone else might get to it first.'

The actress has two children with actor Brad Hall, who she has been married to for 20 years.
