Barry Manilow has given fans a heartfelt update after describing his recent cancer battle as “agony.”
The ‘Could It Be Magic’ star underwent treatment for lung cancer late last year and was forced to postpone a number of shows while he focused on recovery. In January, he had surgery, later admitting the healing process had tested his patience.
But this week brought brighter news.
Taking to social media on March 3, the 82-year-old celebrated a major chart milestone as his latest single broke into the top ten of the US Adult Contemporary chart.
How do you like that, I’m 100 years old with a top ten single on the pop charts!
Like my grandmother once said, next thing you know I’ll be walking on the moon.
Barry thanked his team, radio stations and loyal fans for supporting the track, as well as those who had sent messages of encouragement during his recovery.
“It’s been a long ride, and since I have no patience, it’s been agony,” he admitted candidly.
The singer first revealed his cancer diagnosis in December, explaining that he would postpone his January 2026 shows in order to focus on treatment. He had initially hoped to return to the stage in February but later shared the “very depressing” news that doctors advised he needed more time to recover, forcing further postponements.
Despite the setbacks, Barry remains optimistic.
“But I am getting stronger and I have great doctors and friends and family,” he wrote in his latest update. “I am so looking forward to getting back on stage.”
He also teased that his next album, Time, will be released “real soon,” ending his message with a hopeful toast: “Here’s to another century of making music together.”
