Bruce Willis is a Hollywood legend, but his most iconic role would easily be Detective John McClane from the 1988 action film classic Die Hard.

And while McClane famously made a vow to "never even think about going up in a tall building again," in celebration of the film being released 34 years ago on July 15, Willis paid a visit to Fox Plaza which served as the location for the infamous Nakatomi Plaza.

Taking to Instagram, Willis' wife Emma Heming shared a video of her husband on top of the building in a black-and-white moment of reflection while taking in the surrounding scenery.

The footage was interspersed with scenes from the Die Hard film, while the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's version of Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' plays out.

The film, which has been endlessly replayed on TV over the years, shows McClane's efforts to take down a group of terrorists who have taken over the hi-rise and captured hostages. The events take place on Christmas Eve, which makes many fans consider it a holiday film.

Earlier this year, Willis' family announced that he would be retiring from acting after being diagnosed with the brain condition, aphasia.

Aphasia can begin as trouble communicating due to brain damage in the left side of the brain, which controls language.

Someone with aphasia might have trouble finding the correct words, substitute the wrong words for each other or speak in short sentences that are difficult or impossible to understand.

While its presentations can vary, aphasia is usually a symptom of a broader medical issue. It may result from a stroke, head injury or tumour, or develop due to a degenerative brain condition.
