As millions around the world pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II following her passing, Cher, unfortunately, went viral with her tribute for all the wrong reasons.

And now she has explained the meaning behind her post.

Taking to Twitter over the weekend, the 'Believe' hitmaker reminisced about meeting the late monarch in a post in which she also appeared to make a very unfortunate blunder by referring to the Queen as a cow in her heartfelt message.

The pop icon wrote: "Am sad about the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. I had honour of meeting her. I was in long line of people waiting to meet her. Yet when she got to me, she asked me pertinent questions and seemed genuinely interested in talking to me.

"I'm proud. She was a [cow emoji] and happy she had a great sense of humour."

The post quickly exploded, getting more than one thousand retweets and nearly 20,000 likes, with many users wondering what the singer meant by the cow emoji.

While the majority of users believed she accidentally referred to the royal as a cow instead of the GOAT, which is an acronym that stands for the "greatest of all time," the songstress has since clarified that's not what she meant.

It turns out Cher is just really into star signs ...

Explaining her initial post, the 'Turn Back Time' singer wrote: "Someone said I put a cow next to the Queen. Meeting her was one of the highlights of my life. We are BOTH TAURUS and I was saying how proud I was.

She added that she was "so nervous" about curtseying to the royal that she "practised for an hour" before meeting the monarch who was "kind to her."

The 76-year-old first met Queen Elizabeth in 1988 at the premiere for Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun.

They then met again after Cher sang at the 2001 Royal Variety Performance.
