Coronavirus: Auckland to move to alert level 1 today

The Prime Minister has revealed Auckland will move to alert level 1 at midday today.

Alert level 2 had been in place since 6am on Sunday 7 March and was scheduled to last for seven days.

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins had said earlier he was "optimistic" Auckland would be at alert level 1 this weekend.

And this morning, senior minister David Parker said it was "looking good" for an alert level change.

That optimism was underpinned by the fact there hasn't been a Covid-19 community case in two weeks.
