Coronavirus: New Zealand has 21 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the community

New Zealand has 21 new cases of COVID-19 in the community, says Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield.

All of the new cases are in Auckland.

Today 147 cases are now reported as having recovered from Covid-19.

That brings the total number of active cases in the community to 694 (the total number of cases in this outbreak is now 841).

There are 39 people in hospital, including six patients in intensive care.

Yesterday Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced New Zealand will move to alert level 2 at 11.59pm tonight.

Auckland will remain at alert level 4 until 11.59pm on Tuesday 14 September.

Cabinet will meet on Monday next week to reassess the alert levels for the whole country, including Auckland.
