Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield has tested positive for Covid-19

New Zealand's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield has tested positive for Covid-19.

Bloomfield has led New Zealand's official public health response to the pandemic for more than two years.

Today, it was revealed he has tested positive for the virus.

The health chief is now among the 1,129,749 Kiwis to have contracted the virus since the pandemic began.

Bloomfield is due to step down from the role on 29 July 2022.

Bloomfield has become a household name after fronting press conferences throughout the pandemic.
