Ed Sheeran was given the privilege of closing the Queen's Platinum Jubilee festivities - and his performance was quite the tearjerker.

The 31-year-old pop star sang an emotional acoustic rendition of his hit song 'Perfect' in honour of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's lengthy romance.

Tugging at the heartstrings of the crowd and the royals attending the event, a giant screen behind Sheeran was filled with a video montage of the Queen and Prince Philip throughout their time together.

Speaking ahead of the poignant performance, the 'Shape Of You' hitmaker said: "For me, this is kind of like a full circle, nostalgia moment because this is the event that I picked up guitar at 20 years ago after seeing Eric Clapton playing on stage.

"And then I got to play it 10 years ago for the Diamond Jubilee. It's really really nice to be back, it’s just a great atmosphere here."

Sheeran's performance was followed by a brief appearance from the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony to bring her four-day historic Platinum celebrations to a close.

The Queen was married to Philip for 77 years. He died aged 99 in April 2021.
