Air New Zealand frequent flyers may be relieved to know that, come mid-December, the current, slightly cringy airline safety video featuring Rhys Darby and Anna Faris, will be replaced —and it seems the airline is about to deliver its most star-studded instalment yet.

Over the last few weeks, many famous faces have gathered in Northland for the shoot — including Game of Thrones star Joe Naufahu, former Shortland Street star Jayden Daniels and our favourite Tip Top girl, Rachel Hunter, who instagrammed herself at a marae and with a road sign.

As well as Hunter, Spy understands stuntwoman and actress Zoe Bell flew in from LA for the shoot. Speculation is rife on other big local names taking part.

An Air NZ spokesperson said: “All I can say at this stage, is a range of famous Kiwis flew in from overseas to Northland for the shoot. The video was shot in Northland over several days and involved more than 150 cast and crew.”

Visiting Hollywood stars have also been co-opted to wear yellow life jackets as part of the new advert — including Jason Statham and girlfriend, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Statham has been filming shark movie Meg in Auckland over the past few months.

Movie siren Scarlett Johansson didn’t escape the airline, either, while filming Ghost in the Shell in Wellington this year.

Also donning flotation equipment is Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who was in Auckland last week with his husband Justin Mikita. Bollywood heart-throb Sidharth Malhotra was down as a guest of 100% Pure NZ and also appears in yellow in the video.

Air NZ’s safety videos are becoming the stuff of legend, with everyone from the All Blacks to Bear Grylls starring in them.
