UPDATED 11.38am: Venue manager Vbase is happy with the way it dealt with crowd-management issues at last night's Foo Fighters concert in Christchurch.

Many fans missed the start of the show as they were stuck at the venue's limited gates, waiting to get in.

Vbase general manger Darren Burden says the issue was that by 6.30pm, there were only around 11,000 people in the venue and that's when the queues really started to build-up.

He says they swiftly had to process around 16,000 people in a short time-frame, and unfortunately it was a very tough ask.

Tracey Murph had left work early to get to the concert, and even caught the first of four chartered Foo Fighters buses from Northwood two hours earlier.

She says it was total disorganisation from the minute they jumped on the bus, til they got in to their seats.

Tracey Murph says the band had started and thousands of people were left waiting to get into the venue.

On a brighter note, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl told the crowd the band will return to the city for a free concert.
