Prince Harry made a 1,700-mile diversion to see girlfriend Meghan Markle on his way back to Britain from his tour of the Caribbean.

The prince, 32, was scheduled to fly home to London from Barbados on Sunday in time for an official engagement tomorrow.

But instead the royal stopped off in Toronto to spend the night with actress Miss Markle, who is based in the city while filming US legal drama Suits.

The impromptu visit might explain why Miss Markle, 35, appeared in such good spirits as she bought fresh flowers on Saturday - just 24 hours before Harry boarded the plane.

Prince Harry, pictured left on Sunday, was meant to fly from London to Barbados on Sunday but instead made a 1,700-mile diversion to see girlfriend Meghan Markle in Toronto. On Saturday Miss Markle was seen buying flowers, right, just 24 hours before the prince arrived

A friend told The Sun: 'Harry just couldn't wait to see her. He was due to fly back to London on a British Airways flight with the rest of his entourage.

'But he changed his mind and diverted straight to see her as they couldn't bear to be apart.

'It's just another sign of how head-over-heels he is about her. He is absolutely besotted. We've never seen him so happy – it's great.'
