On Monday the whole world celebrated as Prince Harry and Meghan Markleconfirmed their engagement.

And now one Twitter user has likened their royal romance to another love story that captured the hearts of the nation at Christmas time 14 years ago.

Chris Hofmann tweeted about the similarities between Harry and Meghan's tale and that of the adorable young lovebirds in the classic festive movie, Love Actually.

The 2003 movie sees a redheaded schoolboy fall for a beautiful mixed-raced American classmate, who he eventually chases to the airport to confess his feelings in a famously heart warming scene.

Hofmann tweeted pictures of the characters next to the flame-haired Prince and his glamorous bride-to-be with the caption: 'This is awesome on so many levels.'

It prompted a flood of responses, including from one person who said: 'Glad these two worked it out'.

In Love Actually Sam falls in love for the first time with the older Joanna, an American student at his school.

Prince Harry met Meghan in 2016 and the LA-raised royal bride has relocated from her temporary hometown of Toronto to live in the UK with Harry.

Hofmann tweeted of his picture montage of the royal couple and the movie characters: 'On the left: Royal wedding between Prince Harry (British, red-head) and American, half-black actress.

'On the right: Characters from popular Xmas movie Love Actually - British red-head with a huge crush on half-black American.

'Conclusion - Prince Harry really loves Love Actually.'
