Michael Jackson’s eldest son Prince has opened up on the moment he realised his father was a music icon.

Appearing on Good Morning America to promote his charity work, the King of Pop's son says he only realised the true extent of his Dad's fame after watching videos of grown men fainting while Michael Jackson performed.

‘We were watching some videos of his performances and I’ve been used to seeing most females pass out when they see their artists’, he said.

‘But what blew my mind was when I saw these big, muscle-bound dudes fainting and having to be dragged out. So, I was like “Okay, there’s something else going on here.”’

Even after this realisation however, Prince says that his father’s fame is unlikely to ever register on the scale for him as the rest of the world.

‘Even to this day, I don’t think it holds the same weight to us that it does to other people, because he was our father, our dad’, he said.

Prince also shared some pearls of wisdom passed down from his late father.

"As we were growing up my dad always said, 'I really don't care what you do in life, as long as you're happy doing it and you're the best at what you do. If you want to be a janitor at a high school, you should be the best janitor that you can be,'" he said.

"So, I think that he would always be the supporting figure to me and my siblings and support us in all the endeavours that we try."
