Nadine Chalmers-Ross married Dan Higgins in what sounds like a fairytale wedding last month, but there was one traditional wedding vow the TV star wasn't willing to make.

When it came time for the vows, Nadine promised to love and honour her now-husband and said: "But I'm not promising to obey you - you know that's not the kind of woman you're marrying".

According to the Woman's Day, the pair were wed on March 25 in front of 110 guests at Mahinepua Bay.

And it was a very Kiwi affair; the aisle and first dance songs were by Kiwi bands Fly My Pretties (Singing in my Soul) and Split Enz (Message to my Girl), their food was made by Food at Wharepuke's Colin Ashton, and Nadine's dress was made by Kiwi designer Jane Yeh.

And as if the beach wedding couldn't get any more Kiwi, a pod of dolphins crashed the wedding, prompting guests to get into the water partway through the celebrations, with some not even bothering to take off their suits first.

"Seeing half of our wedding party in the water with those majestic creatures was amazing," Nadine told Woman's Day. "The timing was impeccable. It's got to be a good omen."

In an unusual twist, the guests - among which were famous faces like Toni Street, Peter Williams, Sam Wallace and Mark Dye - were also given awards throughout the day, including those for best hair, hottest mum, beard of the day, cutest couple and "most likely to get nude".

While the honeymoon is on hold for a wee while due to the pair's busy work schedules, Nadine says: "I'm just so glad we have each other. It just makes life so much better and makes me feel like anything is possible.

"I'm looking forward to continuing what we've always done - building a life and enjoying it together."
