It ran for a total of 12 seasons, and it was something that was just as at home in your lounge as your couch was.

But Piha Rescue has now come to an end and it managed to slip under everyone's radar.

The final episode of the reality show aired on the 30th of August back in 2016, since then they've been playing repeats.

The show started out as a one-hour documentary special and ended up spanning 14 years as a 30-minute weeknight series.

Peter Brown, the Piha Surf Life Saving Club president spoke to Stuff about the loss;

"We were disappointed to lose it, to be fair, but that was taken out of our control," he said.

The show helped them out a lot in the fact that people became a lot more aware of the danger of rips and how one should avoid swimming outside the flags.

We are certainly sad to see the show go.
