Sir Tom Jones has blasted claims he and Priscilla Presley are in a romantic relationship.

The Sex Bomb singer, 76, and the Naked Gun actress, 71, have been the focus of much speculation in recent weeks, after being spotted on numerous cosy 'dates' together.

But Sir Tom has directly addressed the rumours and shot them down - insisting the nights out were purely platonic.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, the Welsh musician said: 'Priscilla is a friend of mine. I’ve known her for years. But it’s not true that we’re dating or in a relationship. We are just friends. But good friends.'

The pair have known each other for half a century - Tom being friends with her late husband Elvis who died in 1977.

They have recently reconnected, having something in common since Sir Tom's beloved wife Linda passed away from cancer last year.

Despite saying that he isn't thinking about dating yet, having been married to Linda for 59 years, the rumour mill swung into motion when he and Priscilla were snapped getting in and out of a white limo outside Craig's in West Hollywood.

What didn't help was a source who came forward and told The Sun: 'Tom and Priscilla are courting. There is a spark between them but they are taking it slowly. It really is early days but they get on so well.'

One of Tom's friends also waded in, adding: 'Tom has had a difficult year with Linda's death and Priscilla has been an amazing support.'

Earlier this week, the Burning Down The House singer addressed the gossip but in a less-direct way, simply admitting that Elvis wouldn't have liked their newfound connection.

The Sun reported that Sir Tom said: 'I really don't know how Elvis would feel about us having dinner together. He probably wouldn't be too sure.'

This vague remark did nothing to dispel the rumours - until now.

Priscilla, who met rock 'n' roll icon Elvis Presley when she was just 14 years old, was married to the King between 1967 and 1973.

Sir Tom married his childhood sweetheart Linda when they were both 16 and remained wed until her tragic death, despite various reports that he was unfaithful to her.
