Elvis Presley was incredibly close to his mother, Gladys, who died in 1958, when he was 23 years old.

But Elvis, tragically, never visited his mother when she was dying, and we now know why.

Charlotte Stewart, who starred in 1968's Speedway, opposite Elvis Presley, recently opened up to Fox News about what it was like to work with the King, and what he confided to her between takes.

Her time on set "sparked a brief friendship" with the music legend, and Presley felt comfortable opening up to Stewart.

"As soon as we were done with the first shot, he said, 'You wanna talk?' I was shocked," Stewart revealed.

"He pulled up two chairs together, we sat down, he took my hand and then he began to tell me about his mother," said Stewart. "He talked about Gladys, how much he missed her, how when he was in the army, they wouldn't let him go see her when she was dying."

At this time, Presley was married to Priscilla and although he had a reputation for promiscuity, Stewart maintains their interactions were nothing but friendly. "It wasn't like he was flirting," she said. "He was just being very sweet. He could not have been nicer."
