Gordon Ramsay has never been one to shy away from controversy.

The renowned British chef is well known for his culinary skills and also for his ruthless roasting of other people's recipes.

However, the tables turned on Ramsay this week after he shared a video of himself cooking butter chicken on social media.

There's no denying butter chicken is immensely loved in India and around the world, so after the celebrity chef dared to muck around with the recipe, Indian commenters on the internet were not happy.

The video shows Ramsay sauteeing onions and green chillies before marinated chicken and spices are added. He serves the dish in a bowl with rice and tops it off with chopped coriander.

"Tag someone who loves butter chicken curry! Learn how it's made on the @gordonramsayacademy evening butter chicken class, or half-day Taste of India," he wrote alongside the clip.

But the recipe failed to impress many Indians, who called it bland and missing many key ingredients.

One user wrote: "That's not chicken butter. That's just British food pretending to be butter chicken. Sad."

A second person suggested: "Make it more spicy looks bland."

"All Indian ancestors crying," a third added.

Referencing Ramsay's famed "idiot sandwich" insult, another said: "That’s not how you make Butter Chicken Mr Gordon. *Takes two slices of bread* What are you now???"

Someone else gave Ramsay a step-by-step guide on how to improve the dish, saying: "Gordon the thing you made is not at all butter chicken ... First, for gravy, we cook onions, tomatoes, some Indian spices and cashews, chillies etc. We cook it for a couple of minutes and make a fine paste out of it, then we fry the marinated chicken."

Oh dear!
