Can Rick Astley save the planet? Greta Thunberg hopes so.

The teenage climate activist took the stage at the Climate Live 2021 concert in Stockholm over the weekend and performed the internet's favourite tune: Astley's hit 'Never Gonna Give You Up.'

Eschewing opening remarks on climate change, the Swedish environmentalist started speaking the 1987 song's opening line, "We're no strangers to love."

She then showed off her moves to an enamoured audience at the youth-led concert as she danced and sang to the song.

Fridays for Future's Andreas Magnusson also performed the song and dance routine.

And it seems even Astley himself was impressed.

The iconic '80s singer reposted the "fantastic" footage on Twitter, thanking the 18-year-old for her performance.

"Fantastic and Tack så mycket! Rick x," he wrote.

The performance marked Thunberg's first time singing in public and, after her stint on stage, she told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet: "At the end of the day, we are just teenagers fooling around with each other, not just the angry kids the media often portrays us as."
