Harry Styles has joined in the celebrity tributes to Christine McVie following the tragic news that she passed away, aged 79, after a short illness.

While performing in Santiago, Chile, the former One Direction star stopped his show to honour his friend's memory.

Performing a hauntingly beautiful cover of McVie's 1977 hit 'Songbird,' fans were stunned by the tribute and especially touched by the emotion in his voice accompanied by the gentle plucking of his guitar.

There was not a dry eye in the stadium with even Styles himself appearing teary-eyed.

The 28-year-old singer finished the performance by saying, "thank you, Christine" before blowing a kiss to the sky.

McVie died last Wednesday morning in hospital, where she was surrounded by family and friends.
