Today marks Princess Kate's 42nd birthday.

While it is not yet known how the Cambridges will celebrate her day, we do know that for all three of her children's birthdays, she stays up late the night before as she carries out this sweet birthday tradition.

Like any other mum, the Duchess of Cambridge is eager to make birthdays special for her three children, so every year once her little ones have gone to bed, she sets about making them their very own birthday cake.

Kate revealed her adorable tradition back in 2019 when she and Prince William appeared on a special BBC programme with baking expert Mary Berry called A Berry Royal Christmas.

In it, she spoke of her love for baking and told Mary that when it comes to her children's birthdays: "I love making the cake."

She added: "It's become a bit of a tradition that I stay up 'til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it."

How sweet! Perhaps her children will carry on this sweet tradition for her!
