After finding out the children had been performing his songs outside aged care homes during the pandemic, the Kiwi musician decided to call them over Zoom.

The 53-year-old country music star told the students he was "so moved" by what they had done he gifted five guitars to the school and gave all 16 students their own instrument to take home.

"You guys are so inspiring to me, every one of you," he told the youngsters, who were left speechless by the surprise.

"This is where it begins, right there, wanting to play an instrument, wanting to sing and play for other people.

"It's a really important part, I think, of everything you guys are doing."
