Oscar-winning Titanic composer James Horner confirmed dead in California plane crash

A pilot was killed Monday in the crash of a single-engine plane that went down in a remote area near Highway 33 and Quatal Canyon Road in Ventura County.

The plane was registered to Academy Award-winning composer James Horner, his attorney Jay Cooper confirmed to KTLA.

The crash of the S312 Tucano MK1 was reported around 9:30 a.m. (local time) by other pilots who described seeing white smoke in the area.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found a wide debris area and a small brush fire, Ventura County Fire Department Capt. Mike Lindbery stated in a tweet.

The pilot was found dead at the scene, according to Lindbery.

“We haven’t heard from James. We don’t know where he was headed,” Cooper told a local T.V. station.

A person answering the phone at Horner’s Calabasas home requested privacy, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Horner’s list of credit’s include; “Titanic,” “Avatar,” “Braveheart,” “Legends of the Fall,” “Apollo 13,” “Field of Dreams,” “Aliens,” “Patriot Games,” “A beautiful Mind” and “The Amazing Spider-Man,”

The crash occurred in the Los Padres National Forest near the border or Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
