New Zealand is a very special place for Sir Rod Stewart.

Not only has the British singer been serenading Kiwis with his dulcet tones for many years, but he also has two Kiwi children thanks to his nine-year marriage to our very own Rachel Hunter.

So, of course, the rocker had a special message for us all ahead of the America's Cup.

Taking to Instagram overnight, Stewart shared a video inviting Kiwis to join him in a global "Rock the Dock" singalong of his hit song, 'Sailing.'

In the video, Rod can be heard saying: "Kia ora and hello to all my friends in New Zealand. I've got a real weak spot for New Zealand because two of my children are actually Kiwis.

"It's really wonderful the boat race is going ahead, and you deserve it with all these horrible things going on throughout the world.

"It’s a shame fans can’t be there to cheer on their favourite crew, so please join me in a sing-along of my song We Are Sailing."

Rock the Dock will see the 'Maggie May' hitmaker perform a powerful and emotive rendition of his iconic song from London, with the performance beamed onto the Te Wero big screen in Auckland’s America’s Cup Village on Saturday 13 March, provided Auckland is at level 1 again.

We can't wait for it!
