Sir Rod Stewart surprised fans by bringing his 94-year-old sister Mary on stage as he wrapped his UK tour in Edinburgh.

Rod introduced his older sister as she walked onto the stage, announcing to the crowd: “This is my sister! 94!”

The pair sang his 1975 track Sailing, with their arms wrapped around each other.

Rod later told The Mirror how much it meant for him to have his sister on stage with him.

“At 94, she’s on a rock‘n’roll stage and loving it,” he said. “She has and continues to teach me about life.”

Rod is the youngest of five children.

His older brothers Don and Bob died last year at the ages of 94 and 88 respectively.

In November last year, Sir Rod said: 'It’s with great sadness that I announce the loss of my brother Bob last night, who joins my brother Don on the great football pitch in the sky.

'I’ve lost two of my best mates in two months.'

Rod's eldest sister Peggy died in 1975, aged 40, from multiple sclerosis.
