There are plenty of Afghani supporters at McLean Park in Napier for the Cricket World Cup, watching their team take on the Black Caps.

The Pool A game is close to a sell-out in perfect sunny conditions in Napier.

Among the crowd is a busload of refugees who have travelled from Manawatu to be at the game.

Mohammad Akbary says it's great to see so many Afghanis there.

"It was really surprising when I was watching from the bus, there were people on the road with flags, I was thinking 'oh my god', lots of Afghan people are here and I was really happy."

Akbary says he never imagined watching his home team play the Black Caps.
