The Warriors have blown a 14-6 halftime lead to start their NRL season with a loss to the Knights in Newcastle.

The Knights have powered home with tries to Dane Gagai, Tyler Randell and Robbie Ronchow in the 24-14 victory.

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden says they only have themselves to blame.

"I think it's fair to say we blew it.

"We obviously had a very good performance in the first half and that was on the back of a pretty tough week with some late changes, so I thought we handled that really well but we just lacked that composure."

Coach Andrew McFadden says the side's decision making under pressure was also a key component.

"We had a big opportunity in the second half when the opposition were down to 12 men and we just tried to go for the knockout blow in the first go we got at it."

It's the sixth-straight year the Warriors have opened the regular season with a loss.

Centre Konrad Hurrell was assisted off the field in the first half with what appeared to be a knee problem.

McFadden is allaying concerns.

"We'll have to wait and get a report off the doctor. I don't think there's anything too serious, but we'll wait and see on Konrad.

"He's going to be a bit sore tomorrow, but we'll just have to wait and see how they pull up."

Sam Tomkins was a late withdrawal from the match due to a hamstring injury.

The Titans' off-field dramas have been worsened by a last-minute 19-18 defeat to the Tigers while the Roosters have thumped the Cowboys 28-4.
