The Blues have fallen to a 27-16 defeat to the Stormers in their Super Rugby match in Cape Town.

The New Zealand franchise trailed throughout the match and were down 18-6 at halftime after conceding two tries.

Lock Hayden Triggs was also red carded for the visitors in the 25th minute for punching.

Coach Sir John Kirwan says he has no issues with the card but it cost them.

"If he's thrown a punch then he deserves to go. There's no room for us in that sport to have anything like that."

Kirwan says he thought they might've got a point or got closer but they can't give away 15 penalties and expect to win.

They gave themselves a glimmer of hope in the second half when a try to Jimmy Cowan closed the gap to just five points, but two penalties to the Stormers saw them home.
