World No.1 Lydia Ko has claimed her first Australian Open title with a two-shot win at Royal Melbourne.

The 17-year-old New Zealander solidified her status as the world's best, shooting a final round two-under 71 to finish at nine under overall and claim the tournament from South Korean Amy Yang.

The pair duelled for the lead through the final round, with Yang carding a one-under 72 to finish at seven under.

Overnight joint-leader with Ko, Thai teenager Ariya Jutanugarn, finished third at four under.

It was Ko's first victory since climbing to world No.1 earlier this month and she becomes the youngest ever Australian Open champion.
