New Zealand Davis Cup tennis captain Alistair Hunt's confident his team can reach September's World Group qualifying round for the first time since 1999.

New Zealand's wrapped up a 4-1 win over China in Auckland, to set up a meeting with India in July.

Captain Alistair Hunt says Rubin Statham and Michael Venus in the singles, combined with Artem Sitak and Marcus Daniell in the doubles, is a threatening lineup.

"You've got four guys who can play all four positions in a pretty handy way, so we're going to compete with all the teams now which is great.

"In the past years we've sort-of had one or two guys trying to carry the whole load and that's just not feasible."

Hunt says the whole team is getting stronger.

"You can see in the last year or two, these guys have really upped the ante on what they're doing themselves and they've proved that with their results. Their rankings are obviously going up."

The winner of the Tie in Christchurch will advance to World Group qualifying.
