Yesterday's Oscars featured a very big mistake. In case you haven't heard, the presenter announced the wrong film for Best Picture.
What with all the fanfare surrounding the momentous mistake, another major faux pas passed by.
During the show's In Memoriam segment, the segment featured costume and production designer Janet Patterson.
Previously nominated for Oscars for her work on an array of films, Patterson passed away in October 2016.
Â
Unfortunately, that's not Janet Patterson, it's Australian producer Jan Chapman.
Jan Chapman is still very much alive.
Chapman was, in fact, a great friend of the late Patterson, who both worked on The Piano together, which was filmed in New Zealand.Â
Chapman issued the following statement:
"I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator Janet Patterson.
I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered.
Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer."
