Thousands of New Yorkers have paid tribute to Beatle John Lennon, who would have turned 75 tomorrow, by forming a giant peace sign in Central Park.
They had hoped to set a world record but fell short of the current 5,814 record by some considerable way.
Lennon was fatally shot outside his apartment building on Manhattan's west side just across from Central Park in 1980.
"This is the best present to John," said his widow, artist and musician Yoko Ono.
